Privacy Policy
Short version: We collect minimal anonymous data to make the app work and improve it. We do not sell your data, do not collect your name or email, and you can delete all data at any time.
1. Who we are
Balkans Quiz is operated by Modex Apps, a software company based in Tirana, Albania (EU jurisdiction). Contact: modexapps@gmail.com.
2. Data we collect
We collect the minimum data required to operate the app. Here is exactly what is collected and why:
- Anonymous gameplay events — questions answered, difficulty selected, session duration, score. Collected via PostHog (self-hosted, GDPR-compliant). No user identity is attached.
- Crash and error reports — device model, iOS version, app version, stack trace at point of crash. Collected via Sentry (EU region). No personal data is included.
- In-app purchase receipts — validated server-side via Apple's StoreKit to confirm Pro status. We do not store your Apple ID or payment information.
- Game Center data — leaderboard scores and achievements are sent to Apple Game Center per your Apple ID settings. This is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours.
- Push notification token — stored locally on your device to deliver daily reminders if you enable them. Never sent to our servers.
3. Data we do NOT collect
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials
- Your precise location (we may infer your region from device locale with your permission)
- Your contacts, camera, microphone, or photos
- Any biometric data
- Cross-app tracking or advertising identifiers
4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area, our legal basis for processing analytics data is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — specifically, improving app performance and fixing bugs. We process no special category data. You may object to this processing at any time by contacting us.
5. Data storage and retention
Anonymous analytics are stored on Cloudflare-hosted infrastructure in the EU. Crash reports are stored on Sentry's EU-region servers. We retain this data for a maximum of 12 months. In-app purchase receipts are validated in real time and not persistently stored by us.
6. Third-party services
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — handles all payments. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- RevenueCat — subscription status management. They may store a pseudonymous subscriber ID linked to your App Store purchase. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
- PostHog — self-hosted analytics. No data leaves our infrastructure to PostHog's cloud.
- Sentry (EU region) — crash reporting. EU data residency. See Sentry's privacy policy.
- Apple Game Center — leaderboard and achievements. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of data we hold about you
- Deletion — request erasure of your data. You can also reset all local data in Settings → Danger → Reset Progress
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
- Objection — object to our processing on grounds of legitimate interest
- Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
- Complaint — lodge a complaint with the Albanian Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDP), or your local supervisory authority

8. Children
Balkans Quiz is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. The app does not contain any features that target children specifically, and no personal data is collected from any user regardless of age.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
